Earth Hour - where were you then?

We celebrated Earth Hour last Saturday at 8.30pm. We switched off everything in our house (except the fridge), and went out for a walk in the humid air along our road. Sadly, not a single house switched off and it is quite a shame that despite the media reminding us to do our part to save our planet, everyone is pretty selfish. My family and I have been strong advocates for Earth Hour, and this is our 3rd year. We used to light candles to brightened the house but this year, we only lighted 2 (yes, two) small candles (those for birthday cakes) while we chit chat. It was great.

However, the IT data centers, a big consumer of energy for electricity and cooling probably were running at full capacity. So for those IT folks, perhaps it is time to look at the technology that is helping data storage to be green.

Last week at the Data Center Green Tech seminar, the esteemed SNIA South Asia Chairman, Mr. PK Gupta delivered a presentation that specifically targeted towards green data storage. I found the presentation slides at SNIA web site. You should go and check it out.

We at Real Data Matrix were also doing our bit for Earth Hour. We ran a contest to encourage our customers and partners to spread the awareness of Earth Hour. We are pleased to announce our 3 winners

1. Mr. Jude T. Cruz (Finsoft)
2. Encik Mustafa Malik (MTDC)
3. Encik Razali Abu Bakar (German Malaysia Institute)

Congratulations to our winners and we hope they will become an Earth Day ambassador to their colleagues in their company.

So, where were you at Earth Hour last Saturday?
