SNIA South Asia Academy in Singapore

I was just back from the SNIA South Asia Storage Academy event which happened last week on Feb 25-26th 2010 in Singapore.

And I must tell you that I am very impressed with the content quality of the presentations and tutorials. It is rare that we find materials of the highest standards of such in any events in Malaysia because they are usually marketing fluff. But this was different because technical topics such as FCoE, Data Deduplication (minus the fluff), Ethernet Storage, and Data Protection were showcased and presented by speakers of the highest standards.

Dave Dale, the SNIA International Vice Chairman, was one of the keynote speakers together with Simon Piff of IDC Asia Pacific and P.K Gupta, SNIA South Asia Chairman. But to me, the highlight of the 1st day of the event was Amazon Web Services (AWS). One of the four technology evangelist of AWS in the world, Simone Brunozzi, was there to present a case study of AWS's S3 (Simple Storage Service) & EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud). And they are coming to a data center near you.

On the second day, it was mixed with both SNIA and vendors' materials. I took my time to mingle with the technology crowd and introducing myself as the pro-tem Chairman of SNIA Malaysia. And of course, SNIA South Asia announced the SNIA Malaysia at the show. Click press announcement for the news.

I was mesmerized by the quality of the contents of both days of the event. I went back a happy man.
